Although I’ve written bits and pieces about the Alta-Mont gathering in Essex, MT before, I’ve never really written a report, per se. Chances are pretty good that this will be the last Alta-Mont for me for a while, for a variety of reasons, so I figured I’d put it all down on paper for “hysterical purposes”
Mike Peters and I have been traveling to Alta-Mont since 2000, save for a couple of years (2004 & 2005), due to work issues one year, and a newborn child in the other, both causing last second cancellations to our trip plans. Alta-Mont, since I’ve been going, is something that is planned for the next year, pretty much from the moment we leave Alta-Mont the previous year. So it was this year, although there was trepidation about being able to make it this year due to lack of resources (aka: money). However, Mike and I used my NWA frequent flyer miles and Hilton Honors points to book our flights and secondary hotel, so we actually got out on the cheap this year, although cheap is relative when it comes to Alta-Mont.
However, this year’s event sneaked up on us a bit, and I found myself (and according to Mike, so did he), lacking on the preparation, and suddenly, it was upon us. This was the first year too, where we arrived on starting day of the event, usually we would arrive several days prior, get ourselves comfortable, before falling into the mayhem, per se, which caused a bit of confusion and strangeness on our part
Thus follows the somewhat tongue-in-cheek adventures of Mike Peters (map) and Rick Newton (ricky), on our Alta-Mont #6...
